Lots of great features – wonderful for someone starting to use UV-gels to do their nails
Overall, I really liked this kit. It has a great set of neutral colors, the quality of the polish is excellent – it’s not too thick and not too thin, so it gets a solid color with only 2 coats but doesn’t clump up on the sides as some thicker polishes often do. I have other polishes from Modelones and I’m just as pleased with the other colors I have. The various files are really a nice bonus with this set, they worked great and seem much more sturdy than the ones I’ve purchased from other places. I’ve found that this polish also helps to harden my nails, they break less and can do some serious damage when necessary!The UV lamp is GREAT! It cures this polish in no time! I have to admit, I hadn’t done my nails in about 5 years because I don’t have the patience to wait for it to dry – using the UV lamp on this UV-gel polish cured the polish in about a minute. I do actually cure each layer for 99 seconds and then cure the final layer of top-coat for 3 minutes because I want the polish to be hard when I’m done. I probably could do less, but I’ve found that I like this result, it’s super hard when I’m done and not a single mistake, dog hair, chip, or bubble – nothing for at least 2 weeks!I will also note that the cuticle pusher does a great job at pushing the cuticle – since it is metal, it really gets all of the cuticle and doesn’t leave that thin layer of skin that I would often end up with from my older, plastic cuticle pusher. I also like the length of the pusher’s handle. I have large hands and some tools are just too tiny for me to use comfortably. This tool was long enough that the other end wasn’t jabbing into my hand.I did have two issues with this kit (but not enough to bring down my rating):1) the “remover” pads didn’t seem to do anything at all (I used it on my other Modelones UV gel polish). I filed the surface of the nail with the appropriate file and then kept the remover pad on a nail for 20 minutes and it didn’t seem to do anything at all. I have a liquid remover that works really well (even though I have to use 2 coats usually) – after the first 5 minutes I can see the top layer of the UV polish “burst” and start to flake off. I could see no difference with the remover pads. Given that there are a limited set of these anyway, I’m not really concerned with this as I’d use them up after 2 or 3 manicures, so I’ll just use my liquid remover instead.2) the metal cuticle pusher is POWERFUL – be careful! After using the remover pad, I hoped to be able to easily scrape off the polish with the cuticle pusher – unfortunately, I ended up digging into the surface of my nail and tore off several layers of nail! I will note that I don’t have false nails – I have natural nails, so this destroyed my fingernail! I stopped before I got all the way through the nail, but it definitely caused some pain and it will be months before I am able to grow out this damaged nail. I realize that part of this was partly me pushing too hard, but since the remover did not seem to do anything, I thought I was working through just the polish, not my actual nail. I used a plastic cuticle pusher to complete the removal of my old polish and that did not damage my nails. I’ll chalk this up mostly to “user error”, but it wouldn’t have happened with a plastic pusher. I did find that the “hook” end of the cuticle pusher actually did a better job of not destroying my nails, so I liked that end better.

I’ve been trying to be more budget conscious and decided $60 for a gel manicure twice a month just wasn’t worth it, so I got this kit. The reason I used to go for manicures is I thought i was too uncoordinated to do my nails. I do alot of typing and I can’t keep them long. I found this kit to be really user friendly. It comes with everything you need to get started. It comes with 7 polish colors but the bottles are pretty small (6ml). That’s fine, if the bottles were larger, it’d just be more clutter and I’d have colors I wouldn’t want to use but feel obligated not to waste.It also comes with a nail primer, a base coat, and a top coat. Also comes with that coarse nail file thing to smooth your nail (sorry, i don’t know what they’re called), nail trimmers, and a little paintbrush to put oil on your cuticles. Only thing it DOESN’T come with that I had to purchase separately was the electric nail file thing to remove your gel manicure when you’re done, but I was able to find a great one for $12 here on Amazon. It comes with some jewels and stickers if you want to bedazzle your nails, but I barely know how to file my nails, I had no interest in attempting to use them but it’s cool they were included.Even with how bad I am at doing nails, after reading the instructions, I found it pretty easy and really painless to do while I’m watching TV. It takes probably 20 minutes now to give myself a manicure. If I can do it, so can a child. I thought the polishes would be cheap, but they’re pretty decent quality, consistently pigmented, easy to apply, and generally “no chip”.I am taking off one star because after using this for 2 months I find that sometimes my manicure “peels” off after a few days, or doesn’t consistently harden after that initial base coat. Even after curing the base coat for 2+ minutes it still feels sticky? I read that this may be because the intensity of the UV light is wearing down and isn’t strong enough to harden it. After 2 months of almost weekly use I still have the initial top coat, base coat, and nail primer provided, so after I’m finished with those I’ll probably try a new bottle of base coat and see if that makes a difference. If not, I will look into replacing the UV lamp, which I can afford since I’ve saved so much money by doing my own nails.

The packaging needs to be better. One of the bottles broke inside the box and it took hours to clean everything. Other than that the product is very nice and seems to be of good quality.
