From one of the world’s most influential designers, a rich tour-de-force that explores how history, character, and vision come together to make a home at once timeless and personal.
Nate Berkus is beloved for his elegant, narrative-driven interiors that are layered and deeply personal.
In this beautifully photographed book, filled with Nate’s warmth and years of knowledge, he shares his Four Tenets of Good Design. They are not a recipe to follow, as much as they are inspirational ideas to help get you started:
Make it Personal—Draw inspiration from the places you’ve been, what you love, and who you aspire to be at home.
Embrace History—A room feels most complete when it has old things in it; think about where you can bring in objects and details that have stood the test of time.
Build Character—Consider introducing architectural details, classic materials, and timeless finishes that will make your home unique.
Develop a Vision—Turn your inspiration into a design that embodies who you want to be at home and how you want to live.
For Nate Berkus, enduring design is honest, emotional, and tailored to the people who live in it. That means creating rooms that can grow and evolve with you. Foundations is an invitation and inspiration to design a space that is unequivocally yours.

Best of the Rest
Architecture and interior design fan, with quite an extensive library. I have Nate Berkus’s first two books, but something told me this latest one was a little different, and I was eager to get it. It’s the best of the lot, hands down. From the photos and information shared, as if he were giving a master class on how he does what he does, to the size and feel/design of the book, I can highly recommend it to anyone who is as interested as I am in growing their library and getting superb insights, but doesn’t like wasting money on lesser quality publications.

I’m a fan
I love Nate and Jeremiah! I have many design books, this one is unique. It really speaks to how to breathe soul into your home’s design. Definitely inspiring me to hit up more antique stores. I’m happy with this purchase and plan to share it with my friend who is starting her design journey as mine wraps up. As soon as it was delivered, I curled up on the sofa with the fire going and haven’t put it down for hours.
